Centre College recognized its staff members for an exceptional year of service during its annual end-of-year awards ceremony.

The College recognized facilities management employees for outstanding achievement in the department with the Horky Service Award, created in 1990 after a bequest by Lorette and John Horky ’32.

This year’s Horky Award winners were Dan Burke, lead carpenter; Mike Dick,  facilities management; and Nicole Powell, custodial leader.

Three staff members received the Recognition Award, honoring those who go above and beyond to make outstanding contributions to the College: Julie Graham, financial aid analyst; Shane Wilson, associate director of network and security; and Margaret Meadows, office coordinator for Centre Global.

Clay Taylor, Centre’s senior assistant director of diversity recruitment, earned the inaugural Partners in Student Life Award. Presented by Vice President for Student Life Barbara LoMonaco, the distinction is awarded to a faculty or staff member in appreciation of exceptional service to the Student Life Office.

The Presidential Award for Excellence was presented to Assistant Director of Centre Global Jessica Leonard. The award was created in 1999 and given to individuals who show exceptional dedication to the College through work and service. The award is not given annually, instead reserved for individuals who display outstanding commitment to positively transform campus.

“Jessica is dedicated to the pastoral care of our international students,” President Milton C. Moreland said. “She organizes the annual weeklong orientation in August for new international students and routinely coordinates dinners, excursions and other outings during holiday breaks when many international students remain on campus. She acts as an all-around 'life guru' and expert on all things American — including how to file taxes — for our many international students. She also plays an integral role on the campus-wide Care Team and has served diligently as the Secretary of the Staff Congress this academic year.”
